Tests: There will be announced tests for each chapter. Students absent on test day are responsible for contacting the teacher by phone or e-mail prior to their absence. If you are going to miss a test on test day you need to contact me with a reply from me in order to be allowed to take the retest. If you just don’t show up then points will be deducted from your test grade, 10 points per class day you do not make an appointment.
Due to time constraints, tests will be timed. Students are not allowed to have their notes during a test. If any material is allowed during a test students will be informed prior to the test. Students caught cheating will be given a zero for their first offence. Students will receive an F for the class if caught cheating a second time and will be turned into administration.
Mid-Chapter Quizzes: For the first 3 chapter there will be midchapter quizzes that will cover the first half of the chapter.
Homework: Homework is assigned daily and required for everyone. Homework for each chapter will be collected at the beginning of class on test day. Please label your work with the chapter and section number, place it in order by section. Please do your work neatly and show all work. Homework will not be accepted late.
Final Exam: The final exam will be cumulative and include chapter 7, the final chapter.
Cell Phones and Pagers: Please turn you cell phone off (not on vibrate) BEFORE entering the classroom. EVERYONE HAS VOICEMAIL!! If you in any way use your cell phone or pager during the class you will be asked to leave and you will be counted absent no matter how far along the class is. If it rings or you answer it you will get your books and leave for the rest of the class period, even if you are taking a test. If you have an emergency you need to inform the instructor before the class begins that you would like to deviate from these instructions. Each time you have an emergency you need to let the instructor know before class begins. It is very Disrespectful to allow such an interruption in the classroom. Check your voice mail, before class, after class or during break.
Do not use your cell phone as a calculator. You need to purchase a calculator.
If you need to check the time, bring a watch.
Attendance: Students are required to be present 80% of class time.
For Monday, Wednesday, Friday classes students cannot miss more than 9.6 hours = 9 classes+. If you miss more than 20% of class time you will be withdrawn from the class. Arriving 15 minutes or less late, or leaving 15 minutes or less early will count as a tardy and 15 minutes absent will be recorded.
If you arrive more that 15 min late or leave more than 15 min early, 30 min will be recorded.
For Wednesday night class you cannot miss more than 9.6 hours = 3 classes+. Arriving 15 minutes or less late, or leaving 15 minutes or less early will count as a tardy and 15 minutes absent will be recorded. If you arrive more that 15 min late or leave more than 15 min early, 30 min will be recorded.
If you miss an hour 60 min will be recorded, if you miss half the class 90 min will be recorded.
I will be
counting the minutes you are out of class.
If you will be arriving to class late please inform the instructor at the class day prior to the tardy. If you need to leave early please inform the instructor before the class begins. Teaching is less distracted if the instructor knows when interruptions will occur.
Excused absences and excused time out of class still counts as absences. You need to save your time out of class for emergencies.
If you cannot be in
the classroom more than 80% of the time then you should not take the
class.
Progress Reports: They will be passed out after each test with your grades, average and number of hours missed from class.
Inclement Weather and Instructor emergency leave. For inclement weather call 823-5166 or check out http://www.edgecombe.edu/weather_closings.htm. If for some reason class is canceled due to bad weather on a scheduled test day then the test will be given on the following class day. If the instructor is not present after 15 minutes look for instructions on the board or on the door, also if a test was scheduled it will be on the next class day.
