Welcome
This
Web Site is for students who are in my psychology classes at Edgecombe
Community College. This site contains information and materials on the
Narratives of Success Project.
The Project evolved from a collaborative effort
with several General Psychology (PSY 150) students. Because of their
exceptional performance in class, each student was asked to write a paper to advise and guide other future students on succeeding in
general psychology. The assignment resulted in six “narratives of success”.
These students were open
to the idea of sharing their “stories”. We discussed ways of distributing the
narratives and two options evolved: 1) writing a common document that
collected and summarized the six individual narratives and 2) post the
success narratives on a webpage or on BlackBoard.
Time did not allow for a narrative summary to
develop before the semester’s end. However, during the break I drafted a
“Narrative of Success: A Summary of Stories” and distributed the draft to the
six students. This constantly revised document is distributed to my
psychology class and is available via Blackboard.
As for the website- well…
you are here. Because this site is also a developing collaborative effort, it
is ever-changing. Although I’m the one who maintains the website, it is
guided by those individuals who continue in the project. Therefore,
expect
this site to be updated as new project materials are developed. The
bottom of each page notes the date of the most recent update.
An Invitation to Storytell
You are welcome to take part in this collaborative adventure by
writing your Success story. As its author, you decide the readership-
just you, me, other students, other faculty, family, friends, mentors.
Go to the “Invitation to Participate” tab
on the left side of the webpage.
For Instructors: Although the site is aimed at
students, teachers and educators can discuss their suggestions or share
stories of success- their own or of other students. In addition, instructors
may try variations of this narrative approach in their own courses. |
